About ADAA

​Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority (ADAA) is the supreme entity responsible for promoting the principles of accountability, transparency and integrity across Abu Dhabi entities. It seeks to ensure public resources and funds are managed, collected and expended efficiently, effectively and economically, safeguarding them for future generations.

A financially and administratively independent body working directly under the authority of His Highness the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, ADAA has the power to monitor financial and operational activities of government entities as well as associated companies and projects in which the government owns 25 per cent or more of their capital.

Over the years, we ignited our impact and affected positive change by accelerating sector-wide collaboration, as well as mitigating risk in executive practices by improving organisational governance and regulations:

The role of ADAA was activated with the issuance of Decree No. 8 of 1996 appointing His Excellency Mohammed Al Marar as first Chairman of ADAA.

In April 1997, ADAA law was amended to make ADAA responsible for the post financial control instead of the pre-audit to strengthen its independence.

In July 2004 Law No. 6 of 2004 was issued to give broader authority & functions to ADAA.

His Excellency Riyadh Abdul Rahman Al Mubarak was appointed Chairman of Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority according to Emiri Decree No. (10) of 2008 issued on December 31, 2008.

In February 2017, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the country, may he rest in peace, in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, issued an Emiri Decree appointing His Excellency Hamad Al Hurr Al Suwaidi as Chairman of Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority.

In March 2020, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the state, may he rest in peace, in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, issued an Emiri Decree appointing his excellency Humaid Obaid Abu Shibs as Chairman of Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority.
In October 2020, Law No. 19 of 2020 was issued to give broader authority & functions to ADAA.
